Community Outreach Intern

Location: Baltimore, MD

General Summary:

Under the general direction of Director, Community Outreach, the Community Outreach Intern (CO) will work directly with the Events Coordinator and with the Community Outreach team in planning, supporting and executing internal and external special events from June – September. This person will also help assist the Community Outreach department with some administrative duties as needed.

The Community Outreach Intern must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week. Flexibility in scheduling is a must. Typical schedule will be Monday – Friday during normal business hours with occasional weekend event presence required. The Intern will support the Baltimore and Falls Church Office.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Research event sponsors/vendors/organizations as needed to confirm information.
  2. Work with Events Coordinator and/or key volunteers to coordinate event logistics.
  3. Keep guest lists and event data up to date.
  4. Work with Events Coordinator to procure and organize supplies for events.
  5. Assist with multiple complex mailings.
  6. Event planning, promotion, and on-site execution including set up and tear down.
  7. Supports and promotes events such as Family Fun Run, Gospel Fest, and Community Recognition Event and participates in various other Community Outreach events as needed.
  8. Assists with the creation of marketing materials and brochures, as well as editing/proofing existing material as needed.
  9. Assists with mailing brochures and other marketing materials and creating mailing labels.
  10. Works in close collaboration with other members of the Community Outreach department and provides administrative support as needed

Requirements:

  1. Candidates for the CO Intern position must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, majors preferred include Communications, Public Relations, Public Health, Marketing or Journalism.
  2. Current Junior or Senior status in college.
  3. Must have a strong interest in event planning.
  4. Previous event volunteer experience a strong plus.
  5. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  6. Database experience preferred.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. A team player with a can-do attitude.
  9. GPA minimum of 3.0.
  10. Valid driver’s license, automobile and ability to travel throughout the state of Maryland.
  11. Local candidates only, stipend will not be provided.

Working Conditions:

  1. Works in office/field where there are no physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc.
  2. Attention to detail and use of a CRT screen may produce mental and visual fatigue.
  3. Travel to meetings, presentations and other appointments.
  4. This position is Level 2 – Minimal level of exposure to Blood-borne Pathogens and TB. Employees may at times be in a hospital setting and may have exposure to packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research.
